Tomatoes

Hi all,

I'm a newbie, so please be tolerant with me. I have a question about feeding/fertalizing my tomatoes.

I live on the Oregon Coast. Built a 15 ft. long, raised veggie plot and built a "crude" coldframe around it on the south side of the house. I purchased 5 different varieties of indeterminate tomatoes and planted them in good topsoil/compost mix and added bone meal and Miracle Grow Veggie granuals in the planting hole. My coldframe is heavy glass sides with a clear heavy mil plastic top. There IS airflow from around the back of the coldframe, but for the most part my plants are well protected from the wind and cold temps. I have covered the ground with a thick bed of straw to help retain moisture and ground heat.

My tomatoes are doing great and two of them have good sized green tomatoes growing. The other 3 have lots of blooms and I have helped along the pollinating with a small soft brush.

My question now is should I fertilize? And how much and with what kind of fertilizer? I have heard that if you fertilize too much it will cause splits and other deformities.

Is anyone up to the task of taking "the newbie" in hand and giving me some basic advice?

Much appreciated,
