I'm doing this because I love composting, but am not very patient--I like quick results
my daughter loves anything that squirms. She's 10

When we saw the worm composting at a plant fair, it was a perfect marriage!

She gets to play with the worms, I get better than ever results with the compost.

I can say that an inside worm bin (mine's in the garage) is for the most part really easy and my daughter always braggs that she has over 951 pets.

Gotta run---kid screaming.

Kids fine, still need my attention though.

I just started doing this about 6 months ago. From my experience, it's less messy and less work than composting, or even turning soil. I have only had about 7 get out on 2 occasions, and my daughter is always happy to pop them back to the bin. No bad smell, almost foolproof. Plants responding very well to the castings as well.

I believe this information is in her book Worms Eat Our Garbage (classroom version not to be mistaken with Worms eat my garbage) that you may be able to check out at the library or buy.

Someone mentioned using red plastic cellophane around the aquarium so as not to disturb the worms. I don't know if it works.
