Starting a Worm Bin

Hello

I am new to this forum, I found it by searching the internet for info on worm bins. I live in Extreme Southern IL and am very interested in starting a worm bin. Are there any books you would recommend reading and I wanted to know if this time of the year is ok to start or should I wait until spring. I plan on using a Sterlite tote box about 4 ft long and 2 1/2 feet wide, and this will be outside. I don't have any space inside. Also where is a good source to obtain the worms. Sorry if this has been asked before and thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Mary Appelhof's book "Worms Eat My Garbage" is the place to begin, in my opinion. You can also find a lot on this forum, and on other websites, such as www.redwormcomposting.com. There's a ton of stuff on the web about where to get worms, too. You might start with craigslist, to find someone near you who has worms. Lots of times folks give them away free!
I'm sure you'll find some good stuff. Having worms is great!
