I put lots of different kinds of hot peppers in my bins. I didn't used to,as I imagined that the worms would be burned or something. I accidentally added them to a bin one day and the peppers were gone quickly. No one seemed to be harmed. So now I add them. I guess I have some spicy worms..:)

The only problem with adding the pepper seeds (as well as melon seeds, cucumber seeds, and rotting tomatoes), is that because these aren't hot systems, like a compost pile would be, the seeds survive intact. Then when you use the vermicompost, they sprout. I consider that a small price to pay for the wonderful black stuff though; mulching solves the issue for outdoor use, and plucking a few sprouts out of my indoor plants every now and then isn't hard (though I do have a lovely cucumber winding through my large potted Meyer lemon tree).

I grow chillies (hot peppers) and have about 25 plants, all producing. Unfortunately, the fruits never get to the ripe, red stage as the pepper bugs get to them first. I normally harvest them while they are green. But sometimes I miss a few and the fruits start to rot. I pick these, slit the fruits, pick out the larvae and flush them down the sink and dump the pepper "carcasses" in the worm bin, seeds and all. Sometimes, if the fruits had become mature when the bugs struck, the seeds sprout. I just pull them out, break them and toss them back into the bin.

Speaking of seeds, avoid pumpkin seeds at all costs!

Just before halloween, I made some jack o lanterns and put the guts in my worm bin. I'm still breaking and burrying plants! A week or two after I put them in the top was being pushed off from the bin!

My husband carved a couple pumpkins this past halloween. (We have our front yard fenced off from the rest of the yard and have been putting horse manure down. In the Spring we're going to till it into the ground). He wanted to see if the seeds would sprout and they did. I think every single one sprouted!

I have a lovely tomato garden growing in my bin, from some old rotten tomatoes I tossed in. I haven't gone through the trouble of burrying the seedlings. I imagine they can't survive without good light so the worms will have them soon enough :)
