HI --- I love the furniture . Looks like that area is for the side board/buffet . But right now I think one of those big grey drift wood wall sculptures would look great there or a huge sepia or black and white picture of horses or architecture . I like the color on the wall but you could put up some awsome new wall paper and I love the grass cloth wallpaper that has a sheen to it. You have to do something that makes a statement because of the furniture . You could get some ideas from the Restoration Hardware web site for more rustic modern decor that would go with your furniture .

I think a mirrored sideboard would be fabulous here! Some have an antiqued look to them, but I like the mix of the rustic with elegance you have going on. It would speak to your beautiful chandelier as well. (Latey, I've been avoiding the predictable "built-ins" idea). Getting the right size may be a challenge.

Beautiful space with your silvery, gray woodtones. I would suggest a custom floating console to fit your alcove.

There is a lot of beautiful lightness in your room, but I feel it needs something more grounding. A buffet or sideboard in a wood tone to match your floor could be nice: [houzz=]

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I agree, I'm not as drawn to a built in and would rather find a large buffet... the space is 122" long. I like the Global View piece a lot... it is 78", but it is also a media console - not a buffet. But, I think it is a stunning piece. I also like the amelie mirrored console... that is 70"... what size would work best for 122" long? Either one? How do you buy the Global View one?

Lovely room! I love the wall color and your dining room set. Some nice sideborard/ buffet ideas have been sent earlier. They would look nice in the space. A white built in would also look nice for the room.

How about a floating buffet on the right with art or sculpture above and a massive hutch in the niche? I might think about lowering the chandelier so the bottom pendant is at eye level for the tallest person in the household. A couple of pieces of art or two elegant candle sconces similar to the chandy would flank the window nicely, Consider some simple crown to floor white or grey linen panels on a rod that matches the metal on the chandy.

We just bought a ranch home with an open floor plan - living room flows into dining room. There are medium colored wood floors with yellow and gold tones throughout. The walls are tan, and there's a medium colored brick fireplace with muted red tones. our new sectional (one armed couch and chaise) is a taupe or light brown color (fabric), style is streamlined, contemporary. We want to add some color to the room with an area rug, either a single color/tone with texture or one with a subtle pattern. Please comment with ideas or suggestions.

I don't have a photo, but many years ago I had a house listed that was a regular split level (Calgary term), about 1800 sq. feet as I recall. It had a not so large L shaped living room/ dining room and very little storage area. On the one wall the owners had replaced the window in the dining room with a large bay window onto a park area. But the thing she also did was to have ceiling to floor shelves put in, deep enough for platters and serving dishes. She then had bifold doors installed, and bevelled glass mirror mounted on each panel with quality ornate doorknobs. Beautiful & very functional.
