Mike..I store my vermicompost in a rubbermaid type tote with holes drilled for ventilation, as it is a living material. The vermicompost, I think, gets better with a bit of age and can be stored for years this way.

Thanks Susan but what I am really looking for is which approach will give me more benefit from the castings. Should I keep them in the bin for now and add them when I do my planting in the spring? Or would it be better to mix the castings into the soil now?

I see you live in CA, as I do, though I'm not sure where zone 9 is. If you live in a mild-winter area where stuff does grow all winter, you'll just be nourishing the volunteers if you dig the vermicompost into the ground now. Unless, that is, you plan to be out there weeding all winter!
