Huge weeds over large area

Hey everyone!

So, I let nature take over my garden last season due to circumstances I couldn't avoid, and now it is... jungly. To put it mildly. There are HUGE 4'-6' grasses and flowers (weeds) covering the entire area (roughly 20' x 20').

My question: What is the easiest organic method for dealing with this conundrum? I have considered rototilling, although I know there are downsides to this. I was also looking into clipping them down and covering with newspaper and mulch to see if that would kill them, but at this point, the roots are probably so deep that I don't know if that would do the trick. Any suggestions?
