Your plant is a Clematis. I would be interested to see what the flowers are like!

I think it's one of the native Clematis. Any chance you could share some seed with me? I have other native Clematis seed I could trade.

You mean this is not a weed? I'm not into flowers at all so please forgive my ignorance :-) Actually, I'm a photographer and happened across this plant growing on an old fence near my house. Since it was kind of out in the wild, I assumed it was just a weed. No wonder I couldn't find it in any weed book hahaha

I don't need any Clematis seed Carol but I'd be glad to send you some of the seed from this plant if you'd like. Is the seed the brown things (that look like about six dried petals)? The things with the pretty hairy tails?

I'm asking some Clematis experts if we can come up with a species name from just the foliage and seed heads. Yes, the seeds are the rounded brown parts with the long tails like shown in this picture.

I really appreciate your help Carol. At the same time, of course, I feel really stupid. When I told my wife that my "weed" was a Clematis, we both had a good laugh!

I photographed this beautiful plant and really wanted to know what I had photographed. I was about to title it "The Weed" - sure glad I didn't do that! :-) It would be nice to know the species of this Clematis (somebody is bound to ask me later), I hope someone can tell us.

If it helps any, here's another photo of the seeds and those beautiful tails. The hair on the tails is really much finer than those in the photo you posted. There are less seeds too, usually five or six.
