Hi all,
Thanks for this posting - you id'd the plant I was going to post about. I then tried to read up on fleabane on the web, but didn't get a clear message re whether this is an invasive and/or particularly problematic plant. I find it pretty and would keep if if it's not. I understand there are many kinds, but mine seems to be the same as the photo, and I'm nearby in maryland.

If you like it, keep it. I like it as well and if it pops up in an empty spot I let it be. It tends to get past its prime pretty quickly in my garden so I usually yank it as soon as it starts to fade.

roni - From what I understand, it has cosmopolitan distribution, found the world over since ancient times, not really considered native to a specific continent.

I only ever had a few pop up over the years when I was in OH, have not read about it being a nuisance.

The post is 7 years old and I doubt the original questioner is still following. However, for the record, the plant is not Bellis perennis, English Daisy. An easy distinguishing feature, of many, is that B perennis never has multiple flowers on one stem. The plant is an Erigeron species.

Erigeron can be a real thug in the garden depending on which species it is. I have an invasive one in my yard which I hate almost as much as weedy mulberries. Some species of Erigeron are strikingly beautiful, much loved, well behaved plants. My thug Erigeron multiplies like crazy, grows fast, and tall, surounding and shading out many of my highly valued plants. I don't know which species you have though. Wandering into your garden on the wind kind of raises a red flag. If you like the flowers ( I did too once), and you want more allow only one plant to set seed. Next year you will know whether it's invasive or not. The flowers are nice, but that same flower design is repeated in thousands of other sunflower family plants, many that are all around better looking and more well behaved. Like German Chamamile.
