Oxalis is a very large plant family with many cultivars that are desireable garden plants. Yellow Wood Sorrel, an Oxalis, is considered a "weed" by many people but it is easily controlled mechanically and with mulches. Rarely are pre emergents needed.
These plants are one of many that many beneficial insects utilize when the prey they are looking for are not around, so destruction of this "weed" can mean that insect predatores may not be around when you need them.
