Roundup on Tree Roots?

I thought this might be the right forum for this question, tho I'm not sure. :-)

We're trying to get rid of some Mulberry saplings in our gardens and we can't get some of the roots out without killing some of our perennials in the process. Do any of you know whether Roundup applied to the roots would kills the plant or does it only work via foliage?

Roundup applied to freshly cut stems will affect the plant and it is often used in this fashion to control woody plants. The label will have directions about this. However, Roundup applied to the soil will not control the saplings since once it hits soil Roundup is inactivated as a herbicide.

Interesting! I didn't know that about Roundup and soil. Cool! I love it when I learn something!

I think what I'll do is cover up the remaining root and if/when it grows, get it with Roundup then.
