Wheat-like weed; what is it?

This weed suddenly appeared in the last week and it is growing throughout my entire lawn now. My lawn was planted (hydroseed) late summer last year and it was hit hard by this winter so it was pretty thin and had quite a few dead spots. It was bouncing back but now I have this weed everywhere and I want to identify it so I can treat it appropriately. I have already begun mowing my lawn at a higher height to try and treat it but so far it's not working. It grows much faster than the surrounding grass so it sticks out like a sore thumb.

It looks pretty yellow in the picture, but it is actually a very light green.

What kind of root does this have?
It might be Quack Grass, although my Quack Grass has not grown enough to start to produce seed heads, yet.

Doesn't look like Quack grass. I'm wondering if this is Crested Wheatgrass, a fairly common grass in your neck of the woods.

Thanks for the replies. I posted on another forum and they thought it might be Hare Barley; to me it looks just right:

But, it is also very similar to the Crested Wheatgrass. The major difference to me is that the Wheatgrass looks like it has a lot of disparate parts in the flowering part whereas the Hare Barley is really whispy, like in my photo.

I am going to attempt to use Tenacity to remove it, but it's a long shot and I might just have to wait for winter and use pre-emergent.

It is definitely not crested wheat grass. Looks very much like the hare barley you mention. Since that is an annual, all you have to do is prevent re-seeding to get rid of it in the future. Keep the grass mowed so no seed heads can form and ripen and you won't have it in future years.
