I believe it's a Tragopogon (aka goatsbeard; possibly also salsify). I don't know which Tragopogon, but with more information someone could probably figure it out.

It would help to know where you are located (generally speaking).

If it were growing in my lawn, I'd want to dig it up and plant it in a flowerbed. But since at least some Tragopogons (the edible salsifies) have a long taproot, I'm not sure how successful transplanting it would be. So it might be better to let it go to seed, then plant the seeds in the flowerbed.

You might find a more precise ID in GW's Name That Plant! forum. Since it's not a U.S. native, I assume the Native Plants forum wouldn't be the place to go? Maybe one of the gurus on the Name That Plant! forum would know where on GW you could find more info.
