I'm glad for you and green with envy at the same time! Right now that is the bird I'm most hoping to add to my lifelist. (If they still exist I think we should be leaving ivory-billeds alone)

I'm sorry that pic is so big. I'm not real great with posting pics, and I was afraid if I tried to make it smaller, it would have been postage stamp size!

I saw 2 pileateds about 8 miles from here last summer, but I've never seen them on our property. When I looked up and saw that this morning, I sort of screamed, and scared my husband, and my son came running!! lol!! It was VERY exciting! Now......I just hope they don't ruin any of our trees! But it definitely was one of the most exciting moments for me! I agree with you about leaving the ivory-billed alone.

Don't be sorry. Thanks for posting. Shouldn't have even mentioned it, but thought for a second maybe people would give up before seeing the pileated.

They automatically resize
your pictures and it sure
makes it easier for those
of us who aren't all that computer savvy.

Yes, I used photobucket. Some of my pics come out huge, and others are more reasonable. I don't do anything different, so I don't know why. Actually, my son took the pic, since I was too busy jumping up and down screaming! :)

Catherine, I tried putting it on photobucket and it came out huge, like it didn't resize it. I don't know about on your monitor, but on mine, it's small now! lol...the internet gods have resized it for you....lol!

I wish they had a size between small and huge. They do sometimes. I guess I really need a computer course!

Aren't they neat, we see them often but haven't had a camera around at the same time. One landed on some logs we had piled up about 40 feet from our home and started hacking away - wood flying everywhere - we were totally mesmerized.

Forgot to add a cute liitle side story while we are on the topic of pileateds...
Some time back my mom and dad went to a state park south of here to eat dinner at their lodge, which was famous for its atmosphere and 'finer dining'. Now my dad (the one responsible for giving me a full compliment of crazy-as-hell-especially-when-it-comes-to-nature genes) had never seen a pileated woodpecker, but being a born-again Discovery Channel devotee, knew lots of useful stuff about ivorybills. They were just getting out of the car and proceeding up to the lodge when dad spotted a pileated woodpecker gliding among the trees. Mom tells this story best: dad immediately took off running at top speed through the parking lot and down through the trees, the whole time flailing his arms and screaming "IVORYBILL!!! IVORYBILL!!" as loud as he could. People were turning and staring, pointing and whispering, while this crazy man dashed around through the trees after a large bird, and I am sure poor mom was positively shriveling and quietly pondering the many ways to dismember a body and leave no trace. For her he might as well have been screaming TORA, TORA, TORA!! and strafing the dining room until the nice men with white suits and nets came in to take him down.
Is it any wonder I am the way I am?? Maybe dad and I need to book a trip to Arkansas....

dirtgirl's got me laughing me so hard, I'm not sure if I can respond...LOL! My parents have a second home in Arkansas, and believe me, they shake their heads and whisper down there too! I LOVE your stories! Did you say you had the extra bedroom ready or not? lol...

The one thing I really don't care about here on GW is that the pics we post are not really ours once we post. No copyright, no nothing (and I have no clue how to put a water mark or copyright on it). Anyway, I just right clicked on your picture and sent into my documents. From there I went to photobucket, hit browse, found your pic and told it to upload. It didn't work, so it's deleted now because it is your picture and I really should have asked your permission first, sorry. I've also noticed other people putting in too small pictures, but if you click on them, it opens another window with a bigger picture. If I click on yours now, it simply takes me to photobucket where it wants me to log in. And yes, now the picture is way too small. One needs a magnifying glass to find what it is you're talking about! I'm going to, just for the heck of it, include a photo into this and see what size it is. I'm guessing IVillage (or whoever owns it now?) resized the pic. Too bad they made it so d*mned small! Let's see, what do you want to see a picture of??? Hmm.....I guess I'll just do a picture from last year of the front of our house....before I yanked out all the privet and expanded the beds....with all my little stick plants in there......

Does everybody hate that baby blue the PO had installed as much as me?? The roofer is supposed to be here in a week and he's going to remove a section to what's under there. Course they butchered the front porch and what it did look like. There's a balcony up there, now hidden by the peak they added. And the front porch gets a new color this spring. Geez...I ramble sometimes........

extra bedrooms....well, we truly have a problem with limited space here, but once my dear hub makes good on that threat of installing a rubber room for me (no corners, no breakables) all that might change.

I would like to put in a few hammocks but everybody would be dried out husks by morning unless you did the self-contained bivvy sacks like they have on National Geographic expeditions.

Dirtgirl....I'm ROFLMBFAO...that's me..and sometimes it can be at lunch when I'm home in my "respectable" suit and tie...in the front yard, suddenly running around like a madman chasing something with wings looking for my camera that's NEVER in the last spot I left it...and of course, when I find it, subject is long gone....so I'm left with the dilemna...do I run and fetch camera, or do I just stay and drink the moment...there are now a pair of gorgeous red headed woodpeckers, they come for my suet...and the corn in the squirrel feeder...but they're shy little suckers...I have both feeders outside my bathroom window, it's a beautiful large window that affords a great view..and even though it's slightly tinted...those little suckers are instantly gone if I more then slink for a closer view....and that's of course if all my BEngal cats haven't gone out of their minds staring and chattering when they see them!
