Grasses are a normal part of every woodland I have ever seen so why would it be necessary to kill it from yours?

These grasses--quack, fescue, etc.--are too robust for my smaller plants. They are not only hiding them, they are squeezing them out. And I disagree that they are normal, as my wild woods have very few in the shadier parts. I'm afraid that that is my trouble, as some of the trees are elms and are dying, allowing more light to reach the ground. If I am going to continue to have the more delicate plants, I'll have to control the grass.

I have grass problems...quackgrass, esp, throughout my gardens. I'm on the edge of a huge field and the highway, so I have no hopes of ever being rid of it. It's "done in" quite a few gardening attempts for me. However, this year, I discovered Ortho's Grass-B-Gone. Although it's one of those individual bottles, I've already purchased four of them and will get more if I need to. You can spray it safely among most perennials and trees (they provide an extensive list) and it only kills the grass.
So far, it looks like it will do the trick. Within days of spraying, I saw that the quackgrass was suffering. Yipee!!!

There is another product, called Fusilade that has the same active ingredient. You buy it in concentrate and mix with water. It's pricey, but I think I will be investing in it, as I know my problem will be on-going.
