No it's called Virginia Creeper. It's safe to handle, Poison Ivy has three leaves.

Some people can be allergic to it. Personally, I've gotten breakouts from Virginia creeper worse than poison ivy. But that is rare.

I personally know that there is a 5 leaf Poison Ivy ...... When 7 yrs ago all 3 of my horses were severely sick and colic from eating the bark of a furry vine with 5 leaves the sap turns black when exposed to air.. I sent it to Texas A&M to identify per my vets request. and They stated it is a 5 leaf poison Ivy only indigenous to the San Jacinto River area in TX. It does look like Virginia Creeper.

Lewis: I was unable to find on Bonap or usda a species of toxicodendron or rhus that matched your description. Could you provide the actual report? Parthenocissus can cause similar symptoms: could it have been that?

I suspect that the term 'ivy' is being used rather loosely and that it is some other vine.
