That is Wild Violet. Definately not Ground Ivy, or what is commonly known as Ground Ivy. Local misifdentification can result in a plant having the wrong name locally.

Non-latin names are like nicknames. There are no right/wrong answers, just those more widely recognized. The uploded by johnuch is a viola. The plant kimmsr linked to is Glechoma. Whatever else anyone wants to call them, those are the only definitive answers.

thx for the responses,..........but i don't recall seeing any purple flowers at all....weird.......just the weed

Flowers may be scarce or nonexistant if the plants are mowed with the lawn. Wild violet. Bugger to eradicate.

good point ....grass being cut......read somewhere "triclopyr" which i have in my ortho oxalis weed b gone version....
