Your picture is too small for me to see many details. Does it have a square stem? Has it bloomed?

Maybe it's a Stachys. I think there are some that grow in NY.

Thanks for your reply. I did have trouble with the size of the image. First time trying to post one. The site only allows 60kb -- not much. No, it hasn't bloomed - that would make things too easy!
