Attack of the squirrel?

Wow, today I noticed in my garage that something chewed through the lid of the large plastic trash can that contains all my bird seeds. There were these blue plastic chips on the floor and I thought at first they were petals from the columbine flowers I had placed in the compost bin.

It chewed all around the perimeter of the lid and also right through the lid creating a very strange shape. Much more chewing than what a squirrel would need to get in and out of the lid. Must have been enjoying that plastic.

I really need to clean out the garage, I also found a finch nest in my husband's bike helmet that was hanging on the handlebars of the bike. DH has a new helmet, and I guess I'm going to have to get a metal storage bin for the seeds. VAL

LOL on the chewing part. Need to hear these critter gnawing stories too. My mom reported their neighbor shot a pregnant or nest-busy-building groundhog that wandered into their garden to sample a strawberry. It got me so mad and disgusted. My DH and I would have been on Cloud 9 to have physically seen the woodchuck, or relocate it to OUR backyard or another safe premise.

WiValerie, someone in your garage or 'hood is very hungry for seeds.

Maybe you could put some out somewhere for the squirrel too.

lol...... I had one attack one of those tin popcorn containers that had his peanuts in it!!..... little teeth marks all over it. Best one was the day I was lugging in all the groceries and left the 5lb bag of peanuts on the porch...forgot it until I heard MUNCHING....I swear every squirrel in RI was sitting there feasting!!

Sure it wasn't a mouse? It's strange for a squirrel to get into the garage, unless you leave the door open a lot.
