My guess is dayflower aka Commelina.

Definitely Commelina. Several species, both native and exotic, are known to be present in NJ.

Having an edible weed makes me think that the best eradication might be to eat them.

I've just pulled up all my Amaranth. Going to saute the leaves with onions. Can eat it as you would greens or use it in another quiche. With the cost of groceries going up, you can't beat something you don't have to water, tend to it, and it's free. I've had ladies over for our first Foraging Meal. Aun thing if you really enjoy gardening.

I believe the Spiderworth/Dayflower grows in clumps. So, it should be easy to dig up.

My first guess was also spiderwort (tradescantia). However, it does also look like dayflower. How many blue petals does the flower have -- 2 or 3?

There are mislabeled plants at that link, xtal, and all unidentified regarding species. There are many Tradescantia species, some of them can give some people a contact dermatitis rash, like poison ivy, from getting the sap from inside the plant on their skin.

Dayflowers are various Commelina species. Please find a more reliable, detailed, and accurate resource for potentially tasting any plants!
