Just don't burn any part of it, as the smoke will be even more toxic than the plant. If you think about it, in my zone where it freezes, it dies back and probably gets blown all over the place. I havn't heard of a problem from that at all. Maybe use a long pole to pull down as much as you can and just leave the rest.

Each fall the poison ivy has released its leaves when it has gone dormant. The leaves can cause a rash if you have a problem. Cutting it off at the base will not cause any more problems than you have each fall. The rootlets that attach to the tree will rot in a couple of years and if you want you can pull it down easier then. But as Lee stated do not burn.

That makes sense! It didn't occur to me that it would be no different than in the fall. But I do know not to burn it! Thanks for the replies.
