Need to see more of the plant such as more foliage.

We call it bamboo vine do not know the name for it, I also live in GA South of Savannah. I found a killer in lowes several months ago that kills it. I can't remember the name of it I think it is called tree and root killer it comes in a small squrit bottle you can drip it onthe vine. I will look the next time I go in lowes it was in a orange bottle I think.

I believe that is a Greenbriar vine. The leaves are heartshaped. It is hard to dig up because of the underground bulb. I am also in Georgia and it is very common. If left alone, it will take over, but I have never found an herbicide that really works on this stuff.

Well, THIS is going to be confusing! LOL! Greenbriar, Bamboovine, cat briar, etc., are ALL common names of the Smilax I mentioned in your first post! However, dbwc is only partially correct when he/she describes the leaf shape. As I said in the other post, Smilax has numerous species....each of which are different from each other in appearance.

Frankly, we have not been able to see a real good picture of the leaves of your plant so it cannot be narrowed down to species. BUT, the thorns and the tuberuous root structures are always typical of any smilax.

Thank you all for your responses. My neighbor and I finally found the mean thing in younger stage and yes the leaves are heart shaped...and the root ball is the worst and hard to dig up the older it is....Please Jon if you remember the name of whatever will kill this thing, I would greatly appreciate the info. Again, thanks to all of you who responded.

The weed killer was not at lowes but found it at walmart in 8 oz bottles it is made by Green Light and is called cut vine and stump killer.
