Is this a weed?

I allowed this to grow in one of my garden beds to see what it was. The plant is only about a foot tall. The leaves make it look like a vine but it isnt growing like one. There seems to be small orange flowers that then give rise to what may be very odd shaped seed pods. Should I yank it?

Sorry, I can't tell you if it's a weed or not. But I wanted to comment on how pretty it is. Very striking color combo.

Your plant is Abutilon theophrastii.
Usually it grows much higher.

Thanks for the id. From a quick google I see its size can vary according to soil. It is growing in my leanest soil. In a spot that the annual coreopsis you see as well as calendula orange cosmos and nasturtiums thrive. I think I will let it be and watch it mature.

If you don't want a lot of babies coming up for the next five years pinch off the seed pods.

The dryed stalk is very strong and light weight. My brother 7 I used them as swords when we were younger. It took a real strong whack to make them break.
