weed/wildflower ID

I tried to identify this plant using

http://www.mywildflowers.com/identify.asp

and

http://www.realtimerendering.com/flowers/flowers.html

but nothing matched.

I'm probably entering incorrect information.

Could someone please tell me what genus/species this is? Then I can look that up and read about it, and maybe figure out how to use the online ID tools.

Look under Sonchus (Sowthistle) and/or wild lettuce. Not sure, but at least the spent flower heads remind me of one of those.

Thanks, but I'm pretty sure that's not what it is.

Take a look at the photo gallery I linked to in the above post. The leaves, flowers, and stems are all quite different.

OK thanks for putting me on the right track.

I'm a bit puzzled though because the specimen I am looking at is a lot hairier than the C. canadensis pictures I have found on the web.

I'm going to start a separate thread for anyone who would like to discuss that.
