thank you. It was suggested on the lawncare forum that this might be crabgrass, but one person said it's not. It doesn't look like the other crabgrass that I recognize in my yard. I am still not sure what it is or the best way to deal with it. I have recently used corn gluten meal as a pre-emergent, and we also used weed be gone on certain areas, including this. I hate using the chemicals but it would really help if I knew what i'm dealing with. Can I show the weed in a different way (pictures) to get a positive ID?

I made my comment from the similarity to one of the deertongues - 'twas a guess. But, maybe someone here would have a better shot if you got closeups of the crown of a carefully pulled plant, the ligule, any seed head that has formed, etc. There are a lot of grasses that have this look.
And, you can always take samples to your extension service.
