Any suggestions on eradicating Virginia Buttonweed from sections of my Bermuda lawn? Once infected, this weed is very hard to control and remove because of its characeristics. It mats and chokes out the grass and produces tons of large green seed pods. It likes moist damp soil.

To date, the most effective method that I have found is removing it by hand (a small section at a time). I also use a small, short, hand garden rake to comb thru the grass area, lift out the weed and pull up most of the roots. We have mild winters here on the gulf coast or basically no winter weather and I find this a optimum time to get a handle on removing this weed once infected. Any advice or tips would be appreciated.
