I have a screech owl box in my yard along with other birdhouses and the owl doesn't seem to bother them. The hole diameter on my other houses is smaller so the owl can't get in. Owls are nocturnal creatures by nature and aren't active during the day while other songbirds are feeding. I bought my screech owl house at Songbird Garden. They have a very good selection of quality species specific nesting boxes and I am very pleased with the owl house they sent me. I'll post their link...

I have an owl box up. So far, flickers roost in it during the coldest days of winter. I have had owls in my yard, but they show no interest in the nestbox. If owls take a few small birds, it's just nature's way. A cooper's hawk took a wren he had trapped in my back patio right out from between my legs. I kid you not!! That little wren ran to me for protection, got right between my feet, and that cooper's hawk went right between my feet and got him.

I have more trouble with hawks because they hunt by day. Owls are nocturnal.
