I've used them, from Area Equipment Rental. I thought the tines were steel and you can adjust the raking height. Does an OK job, some come with a rear bagger and some don't. The blades tend to slice thru anything, I was hoping for something that was a bit more like a rake, but instead the tines are like small metal plates that swing around and rip right into the roots. I didn't care for that so much.
I was going to check them out again this weekend, maybe they have something that isn't from a bad English Sci Fi flick this time. If you find something decent let me know...

Thanks for your response. My neighbor is looking into something that supposedly attaches to his weed-wacker. It has rubber paddles that "sweep" debris from the lawn. So far we've been using a hand rake - either bamboo or wire. and picking the gravel out by hand is so much fun, of course. I will get back to you if the neighbor follows through.
