Reviving the garden @ our single owner 1960 rambler.

Good things about the yard:

>very few existing plantings to deal with,

>"manageable size" according to real estate listing,

>south facing front yard, corner lot with open church property to the west.

>Nice mature trees & service berry bushes.

Fishbowl effect challenge presented by yard:

>back yard only eight feet deep, really a side-yard,

> lack of privacy and some noise due to corner lot on a street with some traffic.

Survey of lot

Last fall we had an arborist prune our trees, a huge ash on the west, a Norway oak on the north, a half-dead birch in our south-facing front yard, and a beautiful but sick crabapple in the se corner fr front yard.

At same time we pulled out the existing foundation shrubs: three overgrown junipers, (seventeen feet deep! and two sad looking arborvitaes flanking the front picture windows.

Like to create a landscape in our limited space that affords us some privacy without shutting out the neighborhood.

Any tips or suggestions welcomed.
