If the tree was normal last year and did fine after you planted it, it might still be early for leaf buds to be breaking if you're seeing other redbuds in bloom right now.

As for your tree not blooming, there are many likely causes, need more info to narrow down the cause. Most imporant to flowering is light. Is the location shady, sunny, part sun/shade? It might be that your tree isn't getting enough sun to flower? Your six foot tree should be blooming. Mine was about that size when I planted it and it bloomed the first year in the ground.

I've had mine for 3 years this year and it has never bloomed. I figure it's just still too young.

I planted my 6 foot sapling last spring, it did fine through the summer, but this spring only a few buds. All others in the neighborhood have tons of blooms. Does it need another season to become established?

I planted 2 redbuds several years ago and mine too did'nt get started for 3 years. Had lots of blooms this year.

Just wait. Took mine some years to bloom, although it got transplanted in the middle.

My Redbud has bloomed for 13 years! This year we had a very cold winter. All other Redbuds in the area are blooming. Mine has some small blooms on the trunk but it is not blooming the normal profuse beautiful flowers. Why?
