Wow, that's quite a move! Wisconsin will miss you, but it does seem fun to just change everything up and start over gardening wise.

What part of California are you moving to? How much land will you have to work with there? It sounds so exciting!

Your move is the reverse of mine; I lived in California for 16 years before returning to Wisconsin. I had learned gardening in earnest there, and found myself somewhat restricted by the short seasons - at least initially. Our mild summers & frequent rainfall have their compensations, though... that, and the price of land.

I am assuming that you will most likely be relocating to one of the main urban centers - Los Angeles, San Diego, or the Bay area (Oakland / San Francisco / San Jose). These are beautiful climates, with gardening choices we can only dream of here.

Think of having a vegetable garden in winter - all winter long. Growing figs, kiwi, and citrus. Having geraniums & jade plant outside as perennials. Trust me, you'll get used to it. ;-)

I hope that you will have enough land to take advantage of the climate, and wish you the best of luck on your move.
