Around here Azaleas usually bloom in late May or early June. It has been a cold wet spring. (wasn't that storm last night something??) So I wouldn't get too concerned yet. You did the right thing scratching the bark to see if they are still alive. I bet they'll come around for you, it sounds like you are taking good care of them.

You can add windy to that cold wet spring!

I found that the Rosebud azaela buds in late May/early June...so we are good there. But the foilage seems to be a problem. It began putting out foilage 1st week of May and over the last two weeks nothing.

Does it bloom, then put on foilage?

I can't tell by the garden centers as none of them actually grow azaleas locally.

I have been worried that all mine are dead. The azeleas all look like sticks, also including my rhodys. The only thing with any green, is my Purple Gem and it just flowered today. the Purple Gem is usually the LAST one that flowers because it is on the north side of the house.

Just the same few green leaves towards the lower stems.

Most stems are very dark brown and rough. Most stems seem to be green when I scrap the bark.

Not sure what to do, I could be patient, but if they are ready to cash out I hate to plant stuff after May, unless its fall, but then selection is spotty in fall.

It does not sound good. Would have thought our recent warm weather would have perked it up. I do think your plant is rather stressed. Unfortunatley, stressed plants don't always come out of it. With as hard as azaleas are to get going around here, I would agree, you don't want to plant it in the fall.

Well after those 3 eighty degree days, I noticed there are 2-3 pink flower buds on each plant.

But these #3 plants have 75% of the stems bare...all three are the same. 25% of stems have a few leaves that are dark green with a tinge of brown. Maybe I'll give it till Tues, otherwise I'm pulling them out and taking em back. My only issue is that of the $3K I spent last year in landscaping this is the only FREAKING receipt I kind find! It was only the 3 azaelas, maybe I can bring the plants in and use a different receipt with a equal price since its @ Steins...not sure if they can tell the difference between a bare Azaela and a bare snowmound spirea.

Yes they can tell. They scan or punch in the code on the receipt. You could still try to talk with them about the problem and maybe they will give you a credit.

I understand they punch in the code from the receipt, but how can they tell the dead plant I have is an azaela vs a spirea. Yes those well versed in the trade might know...but Steins rarely sees dormant plants, they are always leafed out.
