strange wildflower

Last year I saw one of these lily-looking weeds and wondered what it was, then lost interest and never did find out. this yr. there are 3 or four, none in bloom.

I've narrowed it down to false gromwell, or comfrey.

Long leaves, softly fuzzy, with a blossom forming now that

is curled into an upside down question mark shape, or a drooping c -shape. Frankly, I've never seen either plant before, and am wondering if they are common to WI? Oh how

I wish I had a digital camera. Too lazy to research and buy one. They are growing in semi shade, under a River Birch tree that anchors a front garden bed of mine.

I would appreciate any clues to verify and eliminate either guess of mine. Pondy
