I had deer pull up plants one time.

Nope, don't have an answer. One forum from another state had some people saying that raccoons would do that. If they do, then it's a possibility here, I would think, but I've never heard anybody mention it. I live in Fort Worth, so have never seen a deer around except at the zoo. No spouse. No more plants have been pulled up. I did plant what remained of that one and my fingers are crossed.

I get deer in my yard just north of Fort Worth and they eat my rose flowers sometimes. Was it newly planted?

I was thinking deer or a dog :-) My grandpuppy happily pulls up every plant that my DIL puts in 'his' yard.

I have a dog, but not a puppy, and I've never had a problem with them pulling or digging up anything. At this point, I'm thinking raccoon if they really do that. Anybody else ever known of a raccoon pulling up plants?
This wasn't newly planted; it had been there about three months.

Did you use anything when you planted it like bone or blood meal? Three months in the ground would have been what I consider barely established and easy to uproot. A rose bush in the ground for a year would be much more difficult to pull up because of the root mass.

It could have been a raccoon if he was after something underground, I've just never heard of that. I have seen raccoons dig up dog food that my dog buried when we went camping so if there were something 'stinky' maybe they were after that. Raccoons like meat and are masters of destruction.

My grandpuppy is a 3 year old mastiff mix, so not technically a puppy. My pet name for him is is misleading :-)

I have the same thing happened to me but my rose bush I just played the day before and I planned some other flowers and it didn't do anything to them
