My neighbor has her SS's growing in afternoon sun and they are doing great. They can take a fair amount of sun, especially if they are well established and get enough water - the more moisture the better if they are in all day sun. What about providing some shade by planting a tall perennial or shrub nearby? Shari

I must be getting tired. I saw the title of this post and immediately thought of Redd Foxx grabbing his chest and predicting "the big one".
I grow mine in shade only, but I think Shari's suggestion of planting a tall perennial is a good one. If you are unsure, try a tall annual like Tithonia or sunflower or intersperse them with some taller perennials. Even if you are virtually planting on top of the SS for quick cover, things will probably work out. I think these will prove more forgiving than you might expect until you either get re-situated or decide that you can do without them.

You are in zone 4 and so they can take more sun than places two zones higher. I would think they would do fine.

Just put a lawn chair or chaise lounge over them till you decide what to do, that will buy you time. Here in 6a you mostly find ss in dappled sunlight. Fss will grow in full sun when it has been deposited and grown there naturally but it too likes forest edges with dappled light. It might be a shock for yours to suddenly be in the sun but anything that will provide some shade will do for now.

In zone 7 here, my best ones get sun from dawn till about 1 o'clock Some grow 4 feet tall and have a million berries.
