Zone 8b Woodland Shrub Suggestions

I have about 1 1/4 acres with an area in the back/side that is heavily shaded by a few live oaks, pines and magnolia. The ground is a little "rooty" and not much grass grows due to the shade. I would like to use this area to block out the view and noise of a fairly busy road. Can anyone suggest some shrubs (preferably that bloom) that could grow beneath the canopies of the trees? I was thinking camellias since they can get quite tall and are thick but I wasn't sure if they like that much shade.

Camellias do enjoy a little shade (partial shade) in warmer climates.

I never really know what to suggest without a lot more info. It might lead to better suggestions if 1. you asked in the Shrubs Forum (those guys are full of ideas about shrubs) and 2. listed your actual location or at least part of the country, soil type, etc.

Thanks brandon - I went to the shrubs forum and, unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a lot to choose from for this area. My location is Tallahassee, Florida. I may have to think about fencing that area.

Hmmm, I'm not that familiar with what does well in your area either, but I hope someone over in the shrub forum will be. It never hurts to push them just a little. The squeaky cog gets the oil.
