Shocking, isn't it? We haven't had rain here in about three days. My plants are finally getting a break and the hibiscus look VERY happy about the sun, ha!

I stood outside and just stared, it was so cool to see some blue sky!

I saw the sun today for about three hours. I was so excited that I made all these plans in my mind about what I was going to do later in the afternoon, and then it clouded up and rained again!! It's been raining for three hours now. This is crazy weather.

I did some major work. It was really hot! I will miss the rain but appreciate the sun. I was working with fencing and was glad I didn't have to worry about lightning.PJ

My husband finally got the lawn mowed and edged, at least. I did some weeding but that was about all I managed. Stupid pregnant body not cooperating with my plans! *collapses on the sofa* It was BAD in the back, in places the grass was to my knees! But what do you do when the grass doesn't dry out for two weeks? *shrug*

It was wonderful to have the sun shinning today even if it was hot. DH and I worked out in the yard, he mowed and weedeated I pulled weeds and did a little hand trimming.

I also moved a couple of coneflower plants, hope they do ok.

We then went out to eat then stopped off at home depot to pick up salt for the pool everyone's out of it, we had to get the more expensive brand :( grrrrrrrrrr.

I don't want the rain to go away totally but would like to dry out enough to dry out and be able to mow and do other yard work.
I did lose two salvias due to the rain :( one I had for three years victoria blue the other not total loss yet but does not look good at all may night.

It finally dried out enough to get the mowers out of the shed. Dh did the backyard with the riding mower & I did the front yard with the push mower. Ran over 5 fire ant beds, 2 stink bugs & emptied the grass catcher 21 times!

I weeded (crab grass) until my back felt broken and I had blisters on my fingers (even with gloves). Ug! My neighbor has tons of mushrooms. I knocked them over so at least they won't get bigger, they were HUGE.

But I got a heck of a lot of weeds pulled. I also made some soda spray for some mildew on my younger crepe myrtle. It still didn't rain here!

    I mowed.......and mowed.........and mowed. Oh yeah....then I mowed.

Our mower's in the shop. We're going to have to go after the back yard with the weed eater. The front yard's okay, cause the boy next door has been mowing it, but with all the beds I have in the back yard, I haven't had him mowing it. His dad said he'd probably mow everything down. This broken mower's getting expensive.

I was at work yesterday, so I didn't get out to the yard. I was looking forward to getting out there today in the sunshine and pulling weeds and pulling more weeds, and yes, Kristi, pulling more weeds. It looks like I have as much weed pulling to do as you have mowing to do! Alas, it's cloudy, but hopefully it won't rain. I bet those weeds will just schlup up out of the soil. I sure hope so.

I mowed the front yard this morning but am leaving the backyard (huge) for my DH this afternoon. The front was still kind of wet so I'm not going to attempt the backyard...it will be much worse!
I have to say, the grass looks great...thick and green!!! I just love a beautiful lawn BUT don't really care for the upkeep!

We have 1 acre and the St. Augustine grass never looked better.

As far the shady area holding water....it's just a mudd hole. What to do with this area? Nothing planted there. Don't say water garden...as we have a cow tank less than 75 yards from the house. We get Water Mocassons. Big Guys too!

Any suggestions for the mudd hole?

I want to put gravel in the area, but Hubby says no.

Saturday morning I finally planted two Double Delights I've had for a month - and picked their location based on the "pond" location (read, need to raise the grass to the bed level, but can't do it yet cause - yes, it keeps filling with rain) and planted daylilies I had in a pot that just finished blooming figured I can move them again in fall, but needed some roots on them before August - sure enough, by afternoon rained again, and I just barely got the coneflowers in a dry spot - most of my roses are on their third set of leaves from the fungus...the nut sedge is reigning supreme over the grass yard...I'd pray for a dry day, but at 95 plus, it won;t be any more pleasant...

Gayle, have you thought about a drainage system? Maybe as simple as a ditch? Just to divert the standing water away. Otherwise, you might need to improve the drainage by raising the grade. A shady raised bed with lots of water can be nice - hostas, caladiums, lily of the valley! Bog plants can be cool, too. I have an arrowhead plant that pops up now and then whenever it gets enough water, then goes dormant when it dries up.

In other news, my toddler has learned about mushrooms. It's so cute, he goes up to them and hunches over, and says to me (as I hover nervously) "No touch, no eat." And wags his finger at me. Then he laughs at them and says "Mushoo funny!"
