Hey Susan. I just dropped into the forum and it is nice to see a familiar face. I have heard good things about Musser Forests and they have selection of Oak trees (link below). When looking for a tree with a max spread of around 40', I thought that Scarlet Oak looked nice and it got some good comments on the Tree forum. I see that Musser lists Sawtooth Oak which I am pretty sure is on the list of invasives for the Mid-Atlantic.

A couple of my favorites are Shumard oak and Chinquapin (also spelled Chinkapin I think). I kinda like the smaller leaves of the Chinq for variety. We have seedlings of those and swamp oaks (similar leaf) in the woods, so I'm trying to pot up the smaller seedlings and transplant them. The Shumard has a nice shape. If you lived closer I'd give you some.
