Green Thoughts is a truly wonderful book. I always wondered why she never followed it up with another collection. It was very successful. What a pity more American publishers don't publish such educated ruminations. That's a book to read over and over. Glad you brought it up.

Thanks, Ginny. I, too, wish she had followed up with another gardening book. I was so taken with Green Thoughts that I read "More Was Lost," a memoir of her marriage during world war two. It was good, but not as good, in my opinion, as Green Thoughts. John D.'s post makes me want to try to call her and tell her how much I loved the book. Would probably be a total annoyance to her, so I won't!

But I bet she'd appreciate a note. I think most writers would be delighted.

Oddly enough I think most writers suffer from a lack of feedback. They write great stuff and everybody likes it but they are too intimidated to contact the writer in person to say how much they like it so the poor writer sits at home alone and wonders "have I made a difference?"

That's very true, altho until the internet, it was very hard to find an author's address, unless you wrote via the publisher who might or might not forward the message. But I do agree that most people never think of writing to authors. 'Tis a lonely business.
