Anybody else have a fragrant crepe myrtle?

We've lived in several houses and always grow several colors of crepe myrtles in each one.

However, the two white ones we planted 4 years ago at this house just smell wonderful. Their fragrance in the morning fills the entire back porch with a wonderful scent.

I never thought crepe myrtles had a fragrance and actually had to smell the large white blossoms to be sure they were the source.

Does anyone know of any other varieties that smell so good?

My 'Natchez' (white) smell good also. Noticed many bees on them this a.m.

Yes, our huge Natchez has a fragrance and is always full of bees. When you walk under it you can feel the vibration

I need to go out and smell the other colors, but I know the 'Natchez' is very fragrant. We actually planted it close to the path in the front garden to be able to savor the fragrance as we walked that way.

This particular tree was a gift from a friend who had just discovered that some crepes smell good. She purchased the tree for me, because she wanted to be sure I had a 'good smellin' one' in my yard too.

I couldn't forget her in a million years anyway, and now this tree reminds me of Lonnie everytime I walk by it.

I had no clue there were scented CMs. PJ

OK, now you guys just stop with this stuff. My gardens are full. I can not read about anymore plants I have to have. :(

Gotta sell this house, and I'm looking for yards with potential.

Tell me if you figure out a way to take a soil test without looking wierd. I'm from California so I get get away with more wierdness(stuffing dirt from all over a potential house's yard and putting it in a labeled bag sort of thing...) than a local Texan! LOL!PJ

What's with this soil test stuff? Soil I can fix. :)

My main concern is sun/shade exposure, what's already there/do I like it/how hard will it be to get rid of it.

If there's trumpet vine or a cottonwood anywhere near its marked off my list.

oh and one other thing, I can't stand seeing those huge mega power lines or trees that the power co has to whack in half.

I'll replace a "Dr Suess tree"(whacked/pruned badly) unless the whole block is full of them. That looks so freakish especially en masse.
No trumpetvine, chinese wisteria, asian honey suckle, or POISON IVY! I'll avoid cotton wood, willows, and mulberries especially if a real genius planted them over the darn sewage lines! I can shade or full sun garden. I like both but I'm insisting on at least one maturish tree that casts some shade on the hottest part of the house. PJ

OH you got that right PJ!! I forgot about the wisteria and honeysuckle! I would prefer mature shade trees on the east and west sides too. No sense wasting 'em on the south or north sides. :)

I want the perfect place, and it has to be cheap too! :)

Cheap, big yard, acres and acres, no taxes, cheap insurance, perfect weather, no hurricanes/tornadoes/floods.., no wisteria, no trumpet vine-that stuff caused our power to go out last week & it isn't even in my yard!, no weeds.....

I need a bigger place cause ya'll keep making me buy more plants! Like fragrant crape myrtles and variegated stuff.

Daisy is having her plant sale this weekend, BEWARE, she has really cool stuff.

Last year my DH brought 2 crepe myrtles home from a trip to HD. They were not labeled but I'm not complaining since they were quite large for $10 each. One was white and said 20 to 30 feet tall and the other was coral pink and said 20 to 25 feet.

I believe the white to be a Natchez; has a wonderful scent! The coral is doing much better this year and has many large blooms that have a very spicy sweet scent.

There is a light pink crepe myrtle that has been in this yard since 1959. It has a nice scent. Both of these are near my front door so visitors (if we had any) are greeted with a wonderful perfumed air. ;)

There were 11 dark pink ones here when we moved in. I don't know what kind they are, but they have a lovely scent. This year because of the rain and my remembering to fertilize they were spectacular and you could smell them across the yard.

Other than the white flowered Natchez are there other crepe myrtles that have fragrance? My street has mostly crepe myrtles for uniformity, I want one that has a fragrance!

My Burgundy Cotton is very fragrant! Flowers are pale pink and not white in my Southern California climate and soil, pH7. Spring foliage is absolutely beautiful red and fall foliage is fantastic too. It’s flowering season is extremely long with two distinct flushes of blooms.

I just noticed the 5 white crepe Myrtle’s I planted 5 weeks ago are blooming and smell like honeysuckle!

I couldn’t figure out where the fragrance was coming from since nothing in the flower beds are blooming or have a scent; so I went over to the farthest crepe Myrtle from my front door - pulled down a branch with a bloom and smelled and it was the one giving off the scent and I had to tell my wife who came outside to see/smell.

It’s great! We moved here to Conroe, TX from Edmund, OK
    and
these last 5 CM’s I planted 5 weeks ago have grown at least a foot - they were approximately 6-7 feet - now approximately 10 feet. Very happy and pleased with these tree/shrubs.

My son loves honey suckle so I’ll have to take him over to one blooming for him to see/smell. I have honeysuckle vine growing on the NW back corner of house on the fence and it too is thriving.

    Just sharing my experience.
