Interesting that "invasive" has so many different connotations! I grew red cedars from seed for a friend and can't see how they could possibly be considered invasive BUT if they are all over your property and you don't want them they might seem that way! I am battling stilt grass, bittersweet, trees of heaven and paulownia...to name a few....and if I were to clear cut a space similar to yours they would all jump right in! Do you plan to fill that area with plants?

I cut down like 30 of the red cedar and wild pears, all sizable calipers. Then the same number of smaller tree seedlings, some ash, some hickory and other varieties. There are just too many of them.

That area was my lawn area. From the beginning, I thought the wild pear trees are ornamental and I let them grow. But they grow so fast and so large. They shape my other plants.

I'm going to fence in that area and grow fruit trees. I do not mind some weeds, but no woody plants. I'll maintain a buffer behind the fence, no large trees to shape my fruit trees.
