I understand.....but

I understand that the garden web folks are in this to make money. The little wanna take a survey thing I could put up with, but these ads that pop up before a message that you have to click on skip are driving me nuts.

I'm about ready to quit this site, hear that moderator!!! Then were will all these ads get you with less people hanging around reading?

Anyways I have mozilla and have tried down loading their add blocker but I can't seem to get to the imaging site to down load it.

Bill, there have been numerous threads with complaints like yours, and the solution has been posted repeatedly. It is very easy to fix, just download Firefox and then also download the two extensions, Ad Block and No Script and all that will go away. It is free, quick and easy at Mozilla dot com.

If you have reservations about using a different and much safer and better browser like Firefox, you can leave your current browser as your default browser until you are comfortable with the new one and know that it keeps all your bookmarks, favorites or what ever. It just takes a little bit of getting used to, then you will wonder why you did not do it sooner. It is like the difference in night and day.

I love Opera, never have a problem when I come here. My fiance is always complaining about his browser too (Foxfire :P ) and I remind him that I "suggested" long ago that he should switch to Opera. It's faster too no matter what they tell you because I have had both for comparison on a dialup (at the time) which is a great way to test the speed.

Anyway, good luck in whatever you decide. :)

I never have any problems whatsoever with Firefox, or downloading their great extensions. Could you have connectivity, or computer problems, sunsi ?

Any way, the goal is to provide the initial poster with a solution to his complaints. I know that mine is good and works, yours may too, perhaps.

I LOVE Opera! It's faster than IE and Firefox, and it uses less memory. And I don't need to download 2 plugins just to not get ads on this site.

Not with Opera, my computer runs very nicely with this browser and I am always so pleased how fast it is and problem free. A few months back before I had high speed internet connection downloading a page was agony, add to that any images or animations and it was "nail filing time" while I waited and w-a-i-t-e-d (but I do admit that I had beautiful nails back then, lol)

When I tried Opera, while still on dialup, I was pleasantly surprized (elated actually) at the speed I gained after installation of this browser and never looked back. So yes, I am a loyal user now. :)

Justin's right, uses less memory. And I thought the same thing about those plugins bill-inpnw mentioned because with Opera I never had to go and seperately download plugins to fight popups, how pedestrian! :P

I too, have no desire to fill out a survey. I also do not like Cool-Whip (or any other edible oil product).

I have firefox, and it does cut down on the ads, but I don't think there is anything I can do about those pesky roll over ads the take up half the screen if your mouse just happens to be positioned over the ad when the page loads. Sometimes it takes two or three tries before I can click on the forums pull down menu without opening a new window to see what's new in Krafts kitchen!

Bill, you might try getting some assistance with it at the Computer Help Forum. They are a pretty savvy bunch over there. They have helped me a lot over the years.

If you choose to post there, include what operating system you have.

For those that didn't understand my original post, I'm using Mozilla, ie Firefox. I went to the Mozilla home page, tried to down load the adblock add on software. I wasn't able too. In my frustration, I posted here venting. Sorry if I didn't come across the first time and this isn't the place for this kinda stuff, sorry.

chemocurl- thanks for the link, I posted there to see if I can get some help with my issue.

O.K. I guess that I am just lucky, I am on high speed cable, but I never have any of the problems or issues talked about above. Mine works like it is supposed to and I could not be happier with it. I am not a computer geek or anything like that, so I will bow out of the conversation and be happy with what I have. I am sure that there are lots of differences in computers, operating systems, etc.

    For cindy-loo:

I don't know if there's some additional mozilla thing that will get rid of the ads you're still getting, but this will block them: (copied from another thread here)

"The Universal Solution: (if you have a PC)

This will work on Windows systems for all browsers; IE, FireFox and Netscape.

The Windows operating system provides a system-level method to block specific IP addresses before they even get to the browser. To effect this solution you need to edit a Windows system file called "HOSTS". This file is located in the directory:

    Windows XP: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
    Windows 2K: C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
    Windows 98: C:\WINDOWS

Open the file in Notepad. Cut the following from this post and paste it to the end of the file.

    127.0.0.1 amch.questionmarket.com
    127.0.0.1 a820.g.akamai.net
    127.0.0.1 iv.doubleclick.net
    127.0.0.1 i.ivillage.com
    127.0.0.1 m.2mdn.net
    127.0.0.1 tste.ivillage.com
    127.0.0.1 img-cdn.mediaplex.com
    127.0.0.1 ads.vmirror.com
    127.0.0.1 cmhtml.ivillage.overture.com
    127.0.0.1 ads.pointroll.com

    127.0.0.1 xml.ivillage.overture.com
    127.0.0.1 cmls.overture.com
    127.0.0.1 cm.ivillage.overture.com

Close and re-open your browser and all the ads will be gone.

Unfortunately, iVillage may in the future buy ads from a new source. In this event the new ad source will have to be added to the list. "

One add-on for Firefox is Adblock Plus.
With it, there are NO banner ads or scroll overs or little floating survey ads. And certainly not any of those huge things that take over the whole screen and you have to try to click on close and end up viewing half the commercial before finally being able to close it (or worse yet, having it freeze up your computer and having to re-boot! That's happened to me on our DSL before).
So anyone with Firefox, be sure to add on the Adblock PLUS!
Bill, it could just be something up with the download site you have chosen, or busy servers? Good luck with it. It will be worth the trouble!

O.K., I was making it harder than it had to be. That is what I get for trying to read the directions. Wont do that again. :o)

So I finally got the adblock, no script and I also loaded JTflash something. You can find it on one of the mozilla pages. It is awewome, BABY! Allows you to only play those flash options on a web page that you want to play. Really increases down load speed.

Thanks everybody for all your help.

For IE7 users, there's an option to turn off Shockwave/Flash in Tools : Manage Add-ons : Enable or Disable Add-ons...

Just select "block pop-up windows" and it's all good.
