Tomatoes in Containers

I want to grow some vegetables, but my physical disability prevents me from getting down to ground level or even down to a conventional raised bed.

I've seen raised cedar planting containers (24 or 35 inches high) that look ideal for me but offer a soil depth of only 8 inches. Is that deep enough to grow tomatoes (and other vegetables)?

Thanks,

Jeff
