Looks like one of those blue tomatoes?

Yeah, looks like another variety of the OSU Blue. I'm growing the blue, and just noticed today the beginnings of 3 baby tomatoes.

And they really do turn anywhere from eggplant purple to jet black depending on how much sun the fruit gets. The more sun hits the fruit, the darker it gets.

whats the color of tomato flesh? is it dark red or downright light colored like black grapes?

The color of the flesh and the exterior color was described if you clicked on the link.

I wonder who named it b'c Sunset has a habit of renaming already known varieties and it looks like they have an exclusive to sell the fruits, which is what they do.

So you folks in CA let us know when you see them for sale.

The Italian researchers have not been as forthcoming with the parentage for their so called black as has Dr. Jim Myers at Oregon has with his initial OSU BLue, then the OSU Blue P 20 and other selections.

The third group working on a similar project is in England but what they have is a GMO where a gene from an actual blueberry has been inserted. I'm not aware of them formally releasing seeds or fruits, although some in Europe claim so/

There are many many folks, mostly amatuer breeders and some within that group that are FAR from being amateurs, hello Keith and Mark, working with the OSU series to try and get something that tastes good, which the original didn't to many folks, including myself/

You can have all the anti-oxidants you want in a tomato but if it doesn't taste good folks aren't going to eat it.

For now I'll get my anti-oxidants primarily from conventional blueberries, thank you. ( smile)
