Difficult to pin the wings down on this bugger but I don't think a garden writer is different from any other writer or any artist once you get past technical writing. A garden writer is (or should be) attempting to share a passion for an aspect of gardening that he finds unique. Communication is the most difficult part and a garden writer needs to discover a vocabulary that is acceptable but is not so dumb as to be pap. There is nothing wrong with technical writing so don't misunderstand me, there are some wonderfully interesting people where I live but you wouldn't know that from reading the local telephone book.
