During rainy weather when I don't go outside everyday to put fresh water in the birdbath I often see the tiny segmented lavae in with the wiggletails. The wiggletails wiggle, but the segmented lavae just seem to float around without moving. I'm curious about what they turn into. I never see them anywhere else except in the bird bath. Are they something left from the bird perhaps? Any ideas?

Not a pretty sight I guess, but it is interesting to the curious ... so thanks for looking :-)
