Monarch process

Here are some pictures I took right outside my front door. The monarch chose an outdoor orchid leaf to pupate on.

I have a wonderful, out-of-print book published in 1967 titled 'Wings in the Meadow' by Jo Brewer. It describes in great detail what happens during the establishment of the chrysalis and the formation of the butterfly from the caterpillar. It is quite amazing. The insides of the caterpillar actually disolve and most of the cells migrate to predetermined places to form other parts. I will copy that part in detail if anyone wants me to.

Please do copy that text. I'd be interested! I have orchids too, and the escapees from my butterfly rearing cage often pupate in them.
You have a nice series of photos here. Good focus and choice of stages.

I've put part of the text on my 'member page', so you can just click on 'my page' any time I write a message. That way if won't be lost. I will continue it as I have time. There is just a bit more to go.
