Peppers

Sorry if this is the wrong forum for Peppers. However my question is, my son started from seed late March Mr. Fothergill's sweet assorts. Many ar doing good. My question is I have one plant in a container which I think has green and red pepper. The plant is about 3' high and has 30 to 40 peppers on it. However they have stalled at about the size of a golf ball or tennis ball. How can I tell when these are ready to pick? I have grown sweet bell peppers in the past and they have been nearly the size or a softball? Any help would be appreciated. TomK
