I wish I had your problem. I still have 11 plants in and about 200 green tomatoes on them. I picked about 20 today and hope they ripen in the house so I can at least use them for sauce. Several were over 1 1/2 lbs. and still green. There are even bigger ones still on the vines outside. I'm not a big fan of picking greenies or fried green tomatoes. I'll try pickeling some as you suggest.

I can only guess that you are in the PNW where things stay cool all summer. Tomatoes do like a little more warmth then some areas of PNW provide.

What variety is giving you the big tomatoes?? and where did you get the seeds. I love nice big tomatoes. Big slicers on sandwiches. I grew mostly Jet Star this year. I was pleased except I would like more really big ones next year.

I'm in western PA, Zone 6. Big tomatoes are coming from Big Zac, Brandy Boy, Marianna's Peace and Polish. MP and Polish are pretty much done but some early ones were well over 1 lb. Now BB and BZ have some real biggies but they are still green. Don't get me wrong, I had plenty of ripe ones all summer long but because of some unusually mild weather these past few weeks the plants are loaded again. For big, good flavored, red tomatoes it is hard to beat Big Zac.
