Open-source Agriculture

Unlike information technology, even that related to Artificial Intelligence R&D, research in biotechnolology is hamstrung by a complicated array of patents and other use-restrictions. I am no lover of biotechnology but so only more troubles for the agricultural and medical biotechnology business without open-source research and development.

Computer software is amenable for duplication, modification, and improvement and therefore has greater utility and value ... DNA as well. Sharing software freely has enabled the open-source movement and has led to numerous innovations in operating systems and products. What about open-sourcing DNAÂis that the key to agricultural innovation and feeding an ever-growing population?
